Business Concept
TThe concept of a "job" in "Jobs-To-Be-Done" is neatly encapsulated by an oft-quoted line from Theodore Levitt: "People don't want a quarter-inch hole, they want a quarter-inch drill". Originating in market research and strategy, Jobs-to-Be-Done (JTBD) is a set of frameworks that is rapidly being recognised and adopted by product teams and UX practitioners worldwide as an effective way to identify and to define user needs.
Based on several years of using JTBD in her own work, Steph will demystify the applications of JTBD Theory, introduce you to the core methods in this practical workshop and show you how you can best incorporate it into your product design process. This workshop works best for creatives and product leaders from technology product companies that want to "learn by doing" the Design Sprint method.

Warm and Powerful Design Inside
Always the question! Make sure to check out the schedule (especially the FullSTK stage as that is full of technical content) and have a plan for your time. I might be biased, since I’ve hosted and spoken on FullSTK over the past few years. Make sure to take breaks, though. Expo can be busy, with a fast pace. Look for places in the schedule where you can step away and focus on chatting to people, just to review ideas.
One of the best talks I’ve seen was at Expo in 2018. It was a talk by Curt Cronin on teams and leadership. Drawing on his experience as a Navy Seal, he discussed how teams of developers (and the broader tech space) can function better when focusing on trust and communication. There are always plenty of great talks – as a developer, I focus mostly on FullSTK and binate.io, with the occasional nod to a Centre Stage talk from leaders in the industry. That said, nothing compares to being involved. I try to engage with as many people as possible to see where things are heading and what the focus is. Some conversations turn into more of a “what not to do” lesson, but overall, engaging with people is where I learn the most.

Donating to a charity or sponsoring a child is an emotional decision – one that could happen anywhere, anytime. The mobile experience for BPTheme needed to maintain the vibrant energy of the desktop experience while functioning to capture donations quickly and effortlessly. We designed a visually appealing, yet highly functional format for finding a child to sponsor.
There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.
